Capturing candid moments of the minutiae of daily life, Jesse Marlow’s work explores the banality of everyday existence through themes of suburbia, abandonment and daily rituals.

"I’ve always searched for photographs depicting colourful, graphic and sometimes playful situations that in turn challenge the viewer to question the composition. For me, photos that raise more questions than give answers are central to my practice as a photographer. Often, it’s the subtle moments in back streets away from the crowds, where colour, form and shape quietly collide creating an ambiguity that lies just below the surface.
When I’m out on the streets, I never start the day with any preconceived ideas about what I’m going to photograph. I love the creative freedom of just being out there with an open mind, my Leica and a healthy sense of optimism. I’ve found this approach works best for me. ‘Some days I’ll come home with nothing and others, I’ll capture a moment that will be with more forever. It’s the uncertainty and challenge of this style of photography that continues to excite and inspire me."

These photos are from two bodies of work. Marlow’s Don’t Just Tell Them, Show Them book (2004 - 2012 and all shot on the M6) and his ongoing series Anything Can Happen and Probably Will (2015 onwards all shot on the Q system).
